It is Joanna's belief that each project is different: there is no set formula or style, although good design, attention to detail, listening and providing an excellent service to clients are constants. The design approach for each project is a response to the individual site existing buildings and context, tailored to the individual requirements of each client.
Joanna set up the practice Joanna Jefferson Architects in 1990, and with need to expand, extended the practice into the practice studio at 222 Oving Road in 1997.
Over nearly twenty years, under the direction of Joanna, the practice has successfully completed a wide range of projects including sailing clubs, churches, conversions and redevelopment of barns into dwellings and other historic and listed buildings. The majority of the work of the practice is individual private houses and house extensions, across a wide range of scales. The practice has received awards from the RIBA Small Projects Scheme and the West Sussex Heritage Awards Scheme. Completed projects have appeared in several specialist books and magazines.
Joanna studied architecture at Liverpool University and at the Mackintosh School of Architecture at Glasgow University. Joanna had several years working for architecture practices in France and the south of England; her work including large housing schemes, several one-off private houses and alterations and extensions to listed buildings.
Joanna's enthusiasm for high quality design is reflected in her practice team who have a strong design background. Joanna has intentionally avoided the opportunity to expand the practice so that she can be involved in every project and provide a highly dedicated approach.
