Old Orchard East Hartling

The clients commissioned JJA to prepare drawings for altering, updating and extending their 1970s house to accommodate their young family.

The ground floor was extended right across the front of the house. The garage was converted into a new playroom and the old playroom, kitchen and utility room were combined to form one large family room / kitchen. The first floor was extended over the old garage to make a new master bedroom and bathroom.

The interior spaces were extensively remodelled and refitted; with new joinery, new bathrooms, a new staircase, a new heating system and a new electrical installation.

Being typically 1970s, the house was clad in stained softwood boarding, which did not complement the dull facing brickwork. The entire house was re-clad with cedar boards and the brickwork was painted white. This gave the house a contemporary feel and brought it back to life again.
