Emsworth Sailing Club

The existing 1960's flat roofed extension was in a very bad state of repair, and the construction generally was not sufficiently robust to cope with the rigours of its environment.

The brief was for a traditional extension to accommodate a clubhouse, with large windows to make the most of the views. The building was to be low maintenance and robust enough to cope with the harsh environment and frequent lashing by the sea at high tide.

The club required a terrace at first floor level for members to sit and enjoy the sunshine and for club activities, starting and finishing races and keeping a look out. The harsh environment presented many design difficulties and extensive civil engineering was required to the ground level deck and slipway.

A further project was carried out to improve the changing facilities and to provide a new juniors room and more storage for outboard motors, oars, and general sailing equipment.
