Itchenor Sailing Club 2

The members of Itchenor Sailing Club required a second phase of development on their much loved and used clubhouse, further extending the dining room by replacing a worn 70's conservatory with a well constructed and light extension with a balcony above. The 'Jubilee Room' brief highlighted the need for the structure to withstand the rising tidal ingress, which had not infrequently flooded the original conservatory and was predicted to worsen in years to come.

The resulting room seats some 50 people in a glazed extension which allows clear views of the original cottage facade behind. Timber louvres mitigate the effects of the extensive glazing from harbour viewpoints. The structure was tanked and a drainage sump was installed for emergency overflow. The upstairs balcony is accessed by a stainless steel spiral staircase, leading to a wooden deck surface and wood railings with glazed panels. The entire structure is built with hard wearing Opepe wood which requires minimal maintenance, naturally dulling to silver grey.
