The Mill House Petersfield

The clients commissioned JJA to prepare drawings for altering, updating and extending their 1970s house to accommodate their young family.

The Mill House is a grade II listed house which had suffered from poor maintenance over the years.

Our brief was to extend the kitchen with a new conservatory, to provide a new master bathroom in the loft above the master bedroom, to convert the stable to guest accommodation and to restore and refit the whole house.

The conservatory was built alongside the south wall of the house, and a new opening was formed into the existing kitchen. The conservatory was designed to reflect the traditional quality of the house, but to bring a contemporary light and airy feeling to the space.

The interior of the house comprises a mix of contemporary and traditional detailing. The new bathrooms and the new kitchen are examples of this treatment, and they sit very well in the context of the old timber framed cottage.
