White Walls West Wittering

The original house is believed to have been built in the 1920's and although it had been extended it retained its delightful character, comprising a collection of quite small and intimate spaces. However, the accommodation was limited: the kitchen was tiny, there were not enough bedrooms, and an additional small living room was needed. The brief was to create the additional space required while retaining the qualities and atmosphere of the original house.

The house was extended in three directions, with two small wings to the north for a new kitchen and garden room respectively. In addition the existing roof was raised above the bedrooms to the south to form a first floor extension. The kitchen and garden rooms are light airy spaces but are proportioned to sit comfortably alongside the existing house. The two first floor bedrooms are surprisingly spacious and there is a small bathroom tucked between them, all served by three new dormer windows.
