New build

Beach House Selsey

Our clients acquired Blue Gates as a holiday house. The original house was built around 2 railway carriages, and the scheme was designed so that the original house was extended and the carriages could be retained.

Sadly, when building work started, it was discovered that the carriages were in a very bad way: the floors and walls and were so rotten that they were beyond restoration. It was therefore decided to construct a completely new house which reflected the form and layout of the original house.

We were keen to design a beach house that had a jaunty seaside quality, and which would make the most of its exceptional location.

Our clients brief was use durable materials that required minimum maintenance: factory finished timber boarding imported from the US, profiled aluminium roofing, and aluminium framed windows. The structure is timber framed and all the components incorporate a high level of thermal insulation.

The result is a really simple, light contemporary house, which has proved to be very easy and enjoyable to live in.
