New build

Beach House West Wittering

The clients instructed JJA to design a new build family house to replace an existing bungalow, to have an open plan layout and plenty of natural light. The resulting house is an example of an English interpretation of New England style in a contemporary seaside vernacular.

The property was designed with a low eaves height in keeping with neighbouring houses. There are low fenced verandas at the front and back of the house, each leading to sliding bi-fold doors which flood light through the open plan kitchen/living/dining space. Traditionally detailed dormers include a high proportion of glazing to further maximise light.Wide planked, limed, oak floors and simple timber framed windows with white louvered shutters complete the look.

Materials used included painted timber weatherboarding and Danish casement windows, also of painted timber.
