Clocktower Stanstead Park

The eighteenth century Clocktower Block is one of the oldest buildings remaining at Stansted Park after the main house was destroyed by fire in 1900.

The building had been used for many purposes and our brief was to design and oversee its refurbishment, so that it could be let as office space. One of the main difficulties was ensuring that adequate emergency escape routes were available.

The old tack room was refurbished to make a manager's office and the remainder of the ground floor space was opened up to make a large open plan office that enjoys light from the original tall sliding sash windows.

The first floor rooms were also refurbished to provide office accommodation. Tea points and WCs were slotted in to discreet positions on both floors and the original staircase was refurbished.
